this city

I finished my English course last week so I only have my Sociology course remaining this summer.  Unfortunately it’s at 1:30-2:30 Monday – Thursday, so that’s quite inconvenient for me.  I’ve been doing a lot of things (none of which have been entirely productive) with my friends, which is really good.  I managed to get us on the guestlist for DJ Sets Andy Butler (Hercules & Love Affair) and Pat Mahoney (LCD Soundsystem) at Celebrities the other week.  The first hour at any show or dance thing (club? I hate the connotations behind clubs and clubbing) is always difficult to dance through.  This is probably due to the fact that most people aren’t dancing in the beginning.  Whatever.  We didn’t care and the music (go listen to H&LA!) was great so we shook our little booties.  Everyone loved Rob’s suspenders, snapping them here and there.  And many boys loved Kristina; too bad they had horrible pick-up lines!  Oh, and I give Celebrities a big thumbs up for clean bathrooms and glasses of water for free. Wow!

Last night we checked out The Cheaper Show at the old Storyeum building.  150 artists showing and everything is $200.  The line up was suuuuuuuuper long (we didn’t anticipate this!) because admission was free; however, we saw some people we knew and slid our way in.  Don’t hate – I’m sure everyone knew someone in that lineup and did the same thing.  There was a lot of stuff I liked and probably 70% of the pieces featured that terrific red dot by the time we got in (8:30pm). Hurray for art!

ねたい です。

Rob discovered this wonderful video featuring Takeshi Murakami’s pop art.  Too bad it is a video for Louis Vuitton. Regardless, I think this animation is delightful, especially with the music. I love it!

I may have a job lined up (finally).  Once again, this job has flown onto my lap.  It will be for a restaurant and I will be serving.  Let’s hope I will be able to keep all of my tips and not have to equally share them.  I know, that’s a greedy thing to say; however, serving is a pretty exhausting job, and customers are really demanding (I should know)!  I will definitely be glad when next week is over. Fingers crossed for a relatively good mark on my midterm and term paper.

Be Kind Rewind

March 2, 2008 at 6:40 pm (films and television) ()

We went and saw the new Michele Gondry film, Be Kind Rewind last night and I thought it was great.  Obviously the best part about this movie is when Jack Black and Mos Def’s characters recreate the films – this is where Gondry’s imagination bursts.  I don’t know what these film critics are saying, the Vietnamese gangsters sitting beside me thoroughly enjoyed the movie: one of them even put his shoes back on in the middle of the film!
